The description should answer, but doesn’t have to be limited to, the following questions: Why was that picture chosen ? what elements are catching the attention? What does the pic makes the viewer think of ?

The high-vis fluorescent paint was invented in the 30’ by the magician Switzer who used it in the dark and only later, as a result of their daytime visibility, it was developed for safety equipment including military apparel, construction cones, vests and street signs. Due to the French event the ever-growing popularity of the yellow vests proves that the high visibility clothing is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to be seen.*
The yellow vests are showing how attention is becoming the battle field of political conflicts beyond ideology. But who attends the attention? What are we paying attention to? How to attract the attention of?
Why do we keep the attention on? And what has the power to occupy our attention? In an attention economy where information is abundant and attention is scarce attention means power and it can evidently be mobilize, politicized, and valorized; gaining, denying, sustaining, and manipulating public attention is a key concern for all formal, semiformal, and informal political actors with a stake in challenging or defending structures of power and authority. Nevertheless counter-forms of attention resist the dominant ways in which the political discourse is structured and organized in what we could consider the performativity of political attention.Within this framework, the workshop proposed its participant to play with the specific notion of “attentive blindness” applying it to a performative study on the gilet jaune; people are not conscious of things happening in their visual filed when attention is directed somewhere else. we are inattentive but we have the illusion of attention, for which we undervalue or don’t notice what eventually becomes unseen. Under the guidance of cognitive psychology the workshop conceptualizes the paradoxes of visibility in the political sphere globally while contextualing it in bourges and therefore using the yellow vest as an example to be explored materially, conceptually and performatively. The workshop proposes its participants to work collectively towards a common intervention in the public space that will be decided and planned together possibly for Saturday march the 2nd.A mixture of French and English will be the working language.Participants should send to Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs.
